Entry visa to Algeria

1- With the exception of those who are not subject to this formality, foreigners wishing to visit Algeria must first obtain a visa from consular and diplomatic offices (visa form).

2- Foreign nationals may obtain diplomatic, service, courtesy, press, tourist, business, study, work, temporary work, family, medical, cultural and transit visas.

3- Visa application forms, which can be downloaded from the websites of diplomatic and consular offices, duly completed in duplicate and accompanied by a passport with a minimum validity of six months, a photocopy of the passport, two (02) recent identical passport photos and a travel and repatriation insurance certificate, must be submitted to the Embassy or Consulate of the applicant's usual place of residence, together with the additional documents indicated depending on the type of visa requested.

4- Applicants from a foreign country residing in the host country must submit a resident card and a photocopy in support of their application.

5- The family visa application must be accompanied by a certificate of accommodation drawn up by a member of the applicant's Algerian family and authenticated by the Town Hall of the guest's place of stay in Algeria.

6- The business visa application must be accompanied by a letter from the employer (letter of mission) or a letter of invitation from the partner in Algeria and a hotel reservation or a letter from the host entity covering the costs of the stay.

7- The tourist visa application must be accompanied by a certificate of accommodation authenticated by the Town Hall of the place of accommodation in Algeria, a hotel reservation or a certificate from a travel agency specifying the nature and place of travel.

Tourists traveling to Algeria with a trip organized by a tourist agency, the visa is issued within 48 hours of receipt of the completed application by the competent diplomatic or consular office.

8- The work visa application must be accompanied by a temporary work permit (APT), an employment contract and a commitment to repatriate the foreign worker as soon as the employment relationship ends.

9- The application for a temporary work visa (for a maximum stay of 3 months) must be accompanied by:

- a contract of assistance or provision of services, in which case the visa is not subject to the prior obtaining of the Provisional Temporary Work Authorization (APTT);

- an employment contract, a Provisional Temporary Work Authorization (APTT) and a repatriation commitment.

10- The application for a cultural visa must be accompanied by an invitation to a seminar or an event of a cultural, scientific or sporting nature, as well as proof of income for the duration of the stay.

11- The application for a study visa must be accompanied by proof of enrollment in a public or private educational institution approved by the Algerian government, proof of a scholarship issued by the Algerian authorities or the authorities of the applicant's country, or proof of means of payment for the applicant's studies and stay.

12- The transit visa application must be accompanied by proof of having obtained an entry visa for the country of destination, if this formality is required, and proof of resources. Stopover permits of 2 to 7 days are issued to ship and aircraft crews.

13- Exceptionally and in urgent cases, the competent authorities may issue a regularization visa upon arrival.

14- Visa applicants must pay chancery fees, the amount of which varies from country to country. Under the principle of reciprocity, nationals of certain countries are exempt from paying chancery fees.

15- Duration of the visa:

- Duration of visa validity: 90 days, 180 days, one (1) year and two (2) years.

- Duration of stay: the maximum length of stay authorized for each entry into Algeria is 90 days, with the possibility, in exceptional circumstances, of an extension not exceeding 90 days. The total length of stay may not exceed 180 days per year.

- The duration of stay for transit visas is seven (7) days.

16- Visa extension on the spot: the visa can be extended in Algeria under certain conditions (https://interieur.gov.dz/index.php/fr/).

17- Number of entries: single or multiple entries depending on the type of visa and the case.
